Cheapest Cabela's Big Game Hunter 2010

Cabela's "Big Game hunter 2010" is a very fun hunting game for the Xbox, but it does have some replay limitations. That being said, it is enjoyable enough the first through. You start the game as a promising young hunter trying to join the "Orion Order" (an exclusive club), and have to prove your abilities by completing a serious of progressively more difficult hunts, with a wide selection of weapons. As another reviewer point out, this plays a lot like a sniper game, with targets that can hear and smell better than humans. Besides the main hunts, there are side hunts that are also fun but don't count toward the grade needed to get into the club.

The actual hunting is fun and involves stalking, looking for signs, selecting the right weapon, and finding the right location to take the shot. It is a lot of fun, but the narrative voice guiding you can be very annoying over time and more than a little condescending, especially when you miss a shot.

Besides the narrator, the only real downside is that the game doesn't change much if you replay a hunt.

If you're looking for a FPS game that goes beyond the cartoon play of running over the enemy with vehicles, sniping from 3 feet away, and running away from grenades every 7 seconds, then this game is for you. It's a first attempt at real warfare game play. It has nested menus of all types of commands. It allows for gunner, pilot, commander posts in all the vehicles. There's a lot to it.

Two big drawbacks.

1) In campaign mode, there's bizarre time constraints that just don't fit in with any of the game play. You'll spend 15 minutes taking an enemy position, executing commands and repositioning troops and such, and then suddenly there will be a 2 minute requirement to do something, and if you miss it -- and you will -- the mission will end in failure, and you'll have to start all over again.

2.) In Xbox live, competition mode, you're luck to find ANYONE playing, and when you do, its a matter of finding their AI players and just mowing them down over and over again until you win. They do nothing but amass in herds and just stand there for your target practice.

This game takes practice, you won't just hop on and start stringing combos together like you could with your thumbs. I was sweating like a penguin in hell the first couple days playing this! I was thinking "This doesn't work very well, at least I got it cheap." Turns out I just wasn't used to it and I sucked at it. I couldn't pull off "Flick Flip Tricks" for the life of me, now I can on demand. (easier if you rotate and ollie at the same time and then flick it back to center, and do it much faster than in the demo video.

This is a new controller, one of a kind! and it takes time to get good at...You will need balance and stamina and patience.

It's Day Four now and I'm ripping it up and loving it! I'm really Bummed at all the Bad Reviews it got and feel they are unfair.

I mean come on, The Skate series came along and said we're gonna create a new flick it skate system, makes you feel like your thumbs are skating, and I totally loved it. A much more realistic feeling than the previous TH games, but then Tony Hawk answers with a Skateboard Controller!! BAM! I was stoked and really wanted it at launch but $120 was just too much! Well I got it for waaaay less and am so glad I did despite all the "Professional" bad reviews. (Keep in mind these reviewers don't have a lot of time to properly learn this game, they have to review everything, and this game takes time to learn, once again.)

The graphics get the job done nicely, yes they could be better but they aren't bad like people say.

The Soundtrack is awesome like usual but that's obviously a personal preference. Darker my love, yeah yeah yeahs, Beck, Duke Spirit stand out for me.

All the decks and clothes for your character keep things fresh, and aren't necessary to this game but help round it out and keep it alive.

The Levels are smaller so far, but well designed and fun.

The Game modes aren't Deep but have variety, Speed, Trick, and Challenge, of course free skate too. You won't be collecting the letters S-K-A-T-E. (which i always hated anyway) The bonus icons are more intuitive and help create a line for you.

The Trick list seems to be smaller and I wish there was a list somewhere for all the moves and how to pull them off specifically. I know if you keep your feet over the front or back sensor you pull of different flip tricks, as opposed to open.

You can Manuel, Grind, Board Slide, Revert, Finger Flip, Flip tricks, Varials, Pull off all kinds of Air Grabs. 180 360 and many more, link tricks with manuels too.

There are a few graphical glitches, but these only tended to show up when i was playing like an idiot and crashing into everything. Now that I've gotten better they don't show up really. Guess they didn't have time to fully play test it for beginners, by skating like a one legged fish monkey in the test room.

This is getting lengthy, but I just feel this game deserves more praise for being the first of it's kind! Now that the price has come down, if you like skating/games give it a shot, just make sure your in shape a little and willing to give it time and patience.

Lost Planet Extreme Condition: Colonies Edition Review

Lost Planet is a 3rd person shooter, you spend all your time aiming and shooting at several different types of acrid (insect-like alien monsters), other humans, and even robot suites known in game lore as V.S. At strategic points you also will don a V.S. yourself, so gameplay is kept interesting by switching between VS and human mode. Oh, there's also a story that ties everything together - which you can and should mostly ignore. Thermal energy acts as a clock in the game, it constantly runs down and you'll die shortly after reaching zero. The mechanic does put the pressure on you to keep moving, and to replenish your supply whenever feasible. On the whole it's not too difficult to manage, other than a few places where it tends to run low.

The boss fights are too difficult for my book. I ended up leaving the game at the Green Eyes fight. I'm not certain if that's the last boss of the game or not (if it is, then I'd say the game is fairly short). In any event, it seems to be a three stage fight: first shoot the eight targets on the acrid's sides, then the four on its head, then who knows? I gave up upon discovering that there was a third stage. I play games to progress through them, not to get stuck trying to defeat the same boss for hours on end. This drum set is great when it works (and when adding the additional cymbal - I'll get to that). I will be focusing my review on the problems I've had with the quality of the set and the difficulty in working with the Ion product support.

Guitar Hero Incompatibility

I bought this set to use with Guitar Hero World Tour, after lightly researching that it was compatible. I guess I needed to do more research. In Guitar Hero World Tour the game would not switch to 4 lanes (which in my opinion completely contradicts the purpose of having the cymbals) like it's supposed to, only the red and yellow cymbal/pads are mapped and there is no patch program to download off PSN. So, out of the box this set is incompatible with GHWT.

After researching more, you can purchase a MIDI drum module (such as the Alesis DM5) and run it through the GHWT drum set. But even then, supposedly, there's an issue with the Ion pedal so you'll need to purchase another pedal. So, no go on GHWT.

I purchased Rock Band 2. Great game, but 1 less lane and the difficulty isn't as good. I won't go into the specifics. I prefer GHWT, I just feel it has a better drumming experience.

Incomplete (No 3rd cymbal)

After playing on RB2, my friends and I got really confused as to when to hit the blue pad vs. blue cymbal and likewise with green pad vs. green cymbal. This premium set only includes one cymbal for either green or blue, and it is highly confusing. It is an absolute must to purchase the additional cymbal so you have 1:1 mapping between green and blue cymbals and pads. In my opinion, this set is incomplete without it and it feels Ion didn't include it to get the cost down. It's like playing a Dual Shock controller without one of the analogue sticks where you can 'map' one of the sticks to one of the... well.. you get it.

Static Disconnects

Ion replaces parts within 90 days of purchase, and it takes 4-6 weeks to receive replacements. When my drum set experienced disconnects on day 1, I spoke with tech support who said that the set is prone to disconnect from static electricity that builds up when the set is placed on carpet. Nowhere did I read in the product description, the manual or their website noting this. Further, they explained that it is highly likely that if the disconnects continue to happen it will damage the unit, if it isn't DAMAGED ALREADY. I immediately purchased interlocking mattes from costco and placed the drumset on it, solving the disconnect issue.

After under a week of playing an hour a day, the drums started disconnecting again during every song, and finally the pedal stopped responding (but the other cymbals and pads work fine). Ion will be replacing the pedal (which will take 4-6 weeks to receive). I asked if they would replace the module and they said that the pedal is probably the issue due to either disconnects or physical damage due to playing the pedal too hard. I hope my pedal didn't break with under 12 hours of use...

I recommend this product if you:

1. Do your research
2. Understand you will be spending more money to get this set to work as intended

I started playing rainbow studios games since Motocross Madness and then Motocross Madness 2. I feel after that it kind of went down hill. I had high hopes for Reflex and I was happy with what I got. Cheapest BlazBlue: Calamity Trigger Standard Edition

This is not street fighter, and I think the comparisons to it are unfair. Street fighter is a different game and requires very different strategies regardless of the fact that they're in the same genre.

The story mode and character design will bother you if you can't stand anime. If you can get past that though, you're in for a treat.

BlazBlue is about combos, more combos and beautiful finishers. Every character plays VERY differently, they all have their strengths and weaknesses but they're not obvious when you first start playing. The battle system is based around using combinations of single buttons with different directions and rotations to accomplish different moves, however unlike street fighter, there's only a weak, medium, strong, drive (special), and grabs rather than dividing up kicks and punches. Blocking can aid you, but only up to a point.

The graphics are amazing. It uses 2D sprites and brilliant hand drawn backgrounds to create a feast for the eyes. Although I've heard very good things about the music, I find it fitting, but not mind-blowing. The voice acting is better than I expected of a game translated from japanese, and for a fighting game really. Because the game is so story intensive this helps out a lot.

The story is very complex and the story mode has you examine it from 12 different perspectives, but only lets you progress through to the true ending by playing through all of them in whatever order you choose. It's very interesting, makes the single player experience very deep, and really gives a sense of the world and the characters' interrelationships.

Arcade mode is pretty standard, ten stages with the last one putting you up against a powered up version of one of the characters. It increases in difficulty well, and playing through with each character unlocks their astral finishers. Score attack functions like a survival mode, and since I have yet to beat it, I'm not sure what it results in, but it's a great mode for those looking for a challenge.
