I bought this game as a Christmas present for my wife. She was always telling me that I got to spend all the time on the Xbox and she would like a game that she could play too. Lost Planet Extreme Condition: Colonies Edition Review

Lost Planet is a 3rd person shooter, you spend all your time aiming and shooting at several different types of acrid (insect-like alien monsters), other humans, and even robot suites known in game lore as V.S. At strategic points you also will don a V.S. yourself, so gameplay is kept interesting by switching between VS and human mode. Oh, there's also a story that ties everything together - which you can and should mostly ignore. Thermal energy acts as a clock in the game, it constantly runs down and you'll die shortly after reaching zero. The mechanic does put the pressure on you to keep moving, and to replenish your supply whenever feasible. On the whole it's not too difficult to manage, other than a few places where it tends to run low.

The boss fights are too difficult for my book. I ended up leaving the game at the Green Eyes fight. I'm not certain if that's the last boss of the game or not (if it is, then I'd say the game is fairly short). In any event, it seems to be a three stage fight: first shoot the eight targets on the acrid's sides, then the four on its head, then who knows? I gave up upon discovering that there was a third stage. I play games to progress through them, not to get stuck trying to defeat the same boss for hours on end. Xbox 360 Drum Rocker Premium Drum Set Top Quality

This drum set is great when it works (and when adding the additional cymbal - I'll get to that). I will be focusing my review on the problems I've had with the quality of the set and the difficulty in working with the Ion product support.

Guitar Hero Incompatibility

I bought this set to use with Guitar Hero World Tour, after lightly researching that it was compatible. I guess I needed to do more research. In Guitar Hero World Tour the game would not switch to 4 lanes (which in my opinion completely contradicts the purpose of having the cymbals) like it's supposed to, only the red and yellow cymbal/pads are mapped and there is no patch program to download off PSN. So, out of the box this set is incompatible with GHWT.

After researching more, you can purchase a MIDI drum module (such as the Alesis DM5) and run it through the GHWT drum set. But even then, supposedly, there's an issue with the Ion pedal so you'll need to purchase another pedal. So, no go on GHWT.

I purchased Rock Band 2. Great game, but 1 less lane and the difficulty isn't as good. I won't go into the specifics. I prefer GHWT, I just feel it has a better drumming experience.

Incomplete (No 3rd cymbal)

After playing on RB2, my friends and I got really confused as to when to hit the blue pad vs. blue cymbal and likewise with green pad vs. green cymbal. This premium set only includes one cymbal for either green or blue, and it is highly confusing. It is an absolute must to purchase the additional cymbal so you have 1:1 mapping between green and blue cymbals and pads. In my opinion, this set is incomplete without it and it feels Ion didn't include it to get the cost down. It's like playing a Dual Shock controller without one of the analogue sticks where you can 'map' one of the sticks to one of the... well.. you get it.

Static Disconnects

Ion replaces parts within 90 days of purchase, and it takes 4-6 weeks to receive replacements. When my drum set experienced disconnects on day 1, I spoke with tech support who said that the set is prone to disconnect from static electricity that builds up when the set is placed on carpet. Nowhere did I read in the product description, the manual or their website noting this. Further, they explained that it is highly likely that if the disconnects continue to happen it will damage the unit, if it isn't DAMAGED ALREADY. I immediately purchased interlocking mattes from costco and placed the drumset on it, solving the disconnect issue.

After under a week of playing an hour a day, the drums started disconnecting again during every song, and finally the pedal stopped responding (but the other cymbals and pads work fine). Ion will be replacing the pedal (which will take 4-6 weeks to receive). I asked if they would replace the module and they said that the pedal is probably the issue due to either disconnects or physical damage due to playing the pedal too hard. I hope my pedal didn't break with under 12 hours of use...

I recommend this product if you:

1. Do your research
2. Understand you will be spending more money to get this set to work as intended

I started playing rainbow studios games since Motocross Madness and then Motocross Madness 2. I feel after that it kind of went down hill. I had high hopes for Reflex and I was happy with what I got. Cheapest BlazBlue: Calamity Trigger Standard Edition

This is not street fighter, and I think the comparisons to it are unfair. Street fighter is a different game and requires very different strategies regardless of the fact that they're in the same genre.

The story mode and character design will bother you if you can't stand anime. If you can get past that though, you're in for a treat.

BlazBlue is about combos, more combos and beautiful finishers. Every character plays VERY differently, they all have their strengths and weaknesses but they're not obvious when you first start playing. The battle system is based around using combinations of single buttons with different directions and rotations to accomplish different moves, however unlike street fighter, there's only a weak, medium, strong, drive (special), and grabs rather than dividing up kicks and punches. Blocking can aid you, but only up to a point.

The graphics are amazing. It uses 2D sprites and brilliant hand drawn backgrounds to create a feast for the eyes. Although I've heard very good things about the music, I find it fitting, but not mind-blowing. The voice acting is better than I expected of a game translated from japanese, and for a fighting game really. Because the game is so story intensive this helps out a lot.

The story is very complex and the story mode has you examine it from 12 different perspectives, but only lets you progress through to the true ending by playing through all of them in whatever order you choose. It's very interesting, makes the single player experience very deep, and really gives a sense of the world and the characters' interrelationships.

Arcade mode is pretty standard, ten stages with the last one putting you up against a powered up version of one of the characters. It increases in difficulty well, and playing through with each character unlocks their astral finishers. Score attack functions like a survival mode, and since I have yet to beat it, I'm not sure what it results in, but it's a great mode for those looking for a challenge.

The online mode is excellent. It's lag free, allows for you to see everyone's rank, preferred characters, as well as including a leveling system to match you with people of (sometimes) equal skill.

BlazBlue has a lot of value, particularly at the prices I've seen for it recently. It has a deep and involving single player experience with a story you'll actually care about, as well as being great for multiplayer, either online or at home. For fans of the late 1980s-early 1900s WWF, the ones who still rock out to Hulk Hogan's "Real American" theme and remember the "Million Dollar Belt", this game will be a gold mine of nostalgia. While the current most popular wrestling video game series (Smackdown vs. Raw) focuses on the contemporary wrestling stars, "Legends of WrestleMania" takes a step back, remembering such figures as Andre The Giant, Ted "Million Dollar Man" Dibiase, Bret Hart, Hogan, and Ultimate Warrior (to name but a few).

The most impressive thing about this game is the nostalgia factor. Each wrestler is a remarkable complete version of themselves from back in the day, right down to their appearance, mannerisms, theme songs, and finishing moves. Jake "The Snake" Roberts comes out with Damien in the bag, Brutus "The Barber" Beefcake has the shears, "Hacksaw" Jim Duggan has the infamous 2x4, and Honky Tonk Man enters in the full Elvis get-up. Basically, for those of you who were "Hulkamaniacs" (or at least heard of the term), you could spend hours just watching all the entrances and (in some cases; the game modes) videos that lead up to each match.

The biggest complaint fielded about this game is the controls, but to me not even that was a negative deal-breaker. Sure, it isn't the smoothest of control schemes, but even after playing the game for quite awhile I am in no way disgusted with it or in any way affected by them in terms of my in-game enjoyment. In fact, for "old school" gamers like me who struggle with a two-joystick setup, the control scheme is actually a blessing in disguise, as the game can be played on a much simpler level (and still enjoyed) before venturing into the more complex moves.

The most glaring weakness I found in this game was actually a lack of some sort of "career" mode (akin to the "Season/Franchise" mode in the Madden series). Basically, besides the exhibition mode, three primary gaming avenues can be taken: Relive (play as the winner in key WWE matches throughout history), Rewrite (play as the underdog in other key matches), and Redefine (e.g. Andre the Giant vs. Big John Studd in a Steel Cage...something that never actually happened). While those modes are great, they don't offer the same thrill as, say, perhaps picking your favorite wrestler and having to fight your way to the top belt.

Thus, for any XBOX 360 gamer looking for a bit of WWF nostalgia, this game will not disappoint. It even includes characters like The Rock, "Stone Cold" Steve Austin, and Shawn "HBK" Michaels to bridge the gap. While the lack of a "career" mode severely limits your gaming options, that weakness is diminished due to the amount of time you will just want to spend re-creating your own matches (in multiple formats) with your buddies. Poor AI and gameplay: the CPU pass offense is unstoppable even when you adjust the sliders. The AI QB will complete 80% of his passes, and the only incompletions are the interceptions which are all too common. Don't expect the CPU to run the ball much either. The speed differential between players is ridiculous and unrealistic - LBs move like elephants. Kick coverage is non-existent...the computer will return your kickoffs to the 40 yd line every time, and if you try to block a punt, expect to be able to return the punt for a TD. Tedious recruiting: having to go thru your recruit list each week of the season is mind-numbing. I liked the old approach of post-season recruiting only. If you have the CPU control the in-season recruiting, you will not get a good class. No 1-AA teams even for this being the 3rd generation of this game for the Xbox 360 - unacceptable. Graphics are astounding, but that is secondary to the poor gameplay. I prefer the speed and smart of NCAA '04 on my old Gamecube.
UPDATE...I spent $10 for 2007, and that is much better! Read my review. If you care about gameplay, get 2007 instead. It's not perfect, but better than this. How to Train Your Dragon

Ok so I took my kids to see the movie and of course after seeing such an amazing movie they of course wanted the game. If only someone had reviewed this for the 360 before I bought it I may have convinced them to get something else. If you're looking for a game based on the movie then keep looking. If you've played any of the Pokemon games on your Nintendo DS/Gameboy then this is almost what you're looking at.

You'll be playing as either Hiccup or Astrid and you basically battle whatever dragon you have in a one on one fight in an arena. There are training modes that earns you experience which levels up your dragon toughness and makes him better during the fights. There are also a few side quests that can be done throughout the game but the game is mostly based on your arena fights.

My 5 year old though enjoyed the game but my 9yr old thought that it was boring and the load times too long. So if you have older kids then this may not be game for you.

Xbox 360 Snap-On Cooling Fan with Tempterature Sensor - Black Review

Well I only have one issue with this fan and I dont know it its the fan or the enviornment that my xbox is in. It is in my basement which hovers around 67 degrees in the summer. Right now it is 63 degrees and at this point my fan, on auto, does not turn on at all. So i'm not sure if the xbox isn't getting hot enough, or the "auto" feature isn't working. That being, I usually just turn it on when I am using the xbox just to be on the safe side. If I can ever find my heat gun, I will attempt to test the "auto" feature to make sure it works. It should be noted that I have a newer xbox which I have read have different processors which run at a lower voltage. I don't know if they run cooler or not, but I've had this xbox for over a year and no problems yet. Most of us are content with stuff that is unoriginal, people don't see the higher possibility, but only see what's in front of them. That is why the world is blind and that is why creativity has died. The proof is in the constant remakes and reuse of old movies, games, etc. We continuously fall into that hole of mediocreness. Be different, demand better! This is a message brought to you by me, nonrelated to this game.

GAME REVIEW

I've been playing this game for about a week or so. I have played Gran Turismo 2 and 3 before and started Forza for the first time. This is an opinionated review about how I feel about this game.

This game is well made, the graphics is nice and all, however my experience with this game has not been very pleasant. It's not that there's anything wrong with the disc or my system. I was expecting to enjoy this game a lot, however, I found it to be one of the most unpleasant, stressful, anger inducing game ever. I like racing simulation games, but either this game is too real or not real enough, I have found the gameplay to be ridiculously frustrating.

I'll elaborate and also add some flaws:

1. Saving. This thing has autosave, once you buy a car or buy certain upgrades, you're stuck with it if you let the autosave kick in. You cannot buy a car and upgrade it and test it out and see if it's good first and if it's not reset your game and try another car. Once you buy the car, you're stuck with it and the consequences of buying it.

2. Tuning is just crazy in this game, but I've seen it in GT and such, but you have to be quite knowledgable in tuning to get it right. A lot of time is wasted, imo, in just sitting around and tuning it. Tuning is hard because sometimes you can't tell the difference or it's simply because you're driving bad in one race and good the next. I find it hard, it's probably just me.

3. I spent 3 hours or so trying to beat the first track, partially because I didn't know about the tuning option because I was new at the time. However, after tuning I would expect that turning would be a lot easier. However, this was not the case. If a fully upgraded car has problems turning a U or L shaped turn at 50-70 mph, then you got issues. I find myself continuously spinning out of control, tuning doesn't seem to do too much. I suppose this is a personal thing hence this is a personal review. It just might happen to you too. Also, you got to watch out for ur opponents accidently nugging you. One nug means losing control, smashing into the wall, and ruining your race. Resetting is a continuously option you must choose if you play this game.

4. Again with the autosaving issue. Many of the races require a specific class of car, a specific weight requirement, model type, HP limit, etc. That requires you to buy cars and upgrades. However, cars can be expensive and the upgrades maybe even more. I fully upgrade one of my cars (sometimes u should and sometimes you shouldn't fully upgrade base on race requirements) and it costs me about 30-40K give or take. Now, autosave is the issue because you can't actually buy a car, test it out in the race you want, and choose whether to keep it or not. Once you buy a car, you are stuck with it even if you hate it. You can't change your mind. Autosave just makes the game worse, I dislike it very much.

5. You can't sell the cars that you won. So far from what I see it's cars that you win in a tourney or when you reach a certain level (every 5 lvls u get a car). Your max resell is 100cr, which is worthless. So winning cars many times won't help you unless maybe if you plan to use them.

6. Funky physics. What do I mean? When you hit the side wall in a parallel direction, physics would probably have it that the car just slides against the wall instead of bouncing me perpendicular off it. Who would have thought that with all this competition between 2K Sports and Sony of who has made the most realistic simulation baseball game, EA comes with this arcade style slugger that totally revamps the fun factor as it is displayed with so much eye-catching features. What makes this game so great than the others is that it is so different from the others. This game does not completely take the game of baseball seriously as the game play is truly surreal along with a commentary that is filled with laughs and not forgetting the many unique features that this game has to offer to make you feel that you're actually part of the clubhouse. Purchased this game with a big savings from getting at Best Buy or Walmart - game came fast and packaging was a little hurried i thought but still the game and fishing rod is a blast. Took about an hour to figure out how to cast the thing - the instructions in the book are not too clear so would reccomend getting online and watching the tuturial that is availabe by video. Cheapest Xbox 360 Elite 120 GB Console System

I purchased the Xbox 360 Elite from Gamesboutike for $230.00 in August, 2009. It was listed on Amazon as USED - LIKE NEW. By December 2009 the unit displayed an E74 error message. Per Microsoft instruction, I sent the unit in for repair. Microsoft returned the unit a few weeks later stating that the Xbox has been modified or tamperred with; therefore, the warranty has been voided. MS dispute resolution center advice that I should take my dispute with the retailer that sold me the unit if I did not tamper with it. Following MS's advice I contacted Gamesboutike through Amazon. Gamesboutike responded and instructed me to send in the unit to them and that they would try to repair the unit themselves. About a couple weeks later after I shipped the unit to Gamesboutike, they responded that the unit was damage beyond repair due to some Xclamp reason and there is nothing else they can do for me. I responded to Gamesboutike to let them know that I'm the sole owner of the Xbox and I'm certain that the unit was never tampered with in anyway and that I would expect a full refund or a replacement. Gamesboutike never responds back to me nor did they ever return the Xbox.

The good thing for me is that I kept the receipt and document all my communications regarding my dispute with MS and Gamesboutike and took the dispute to the Credit Card Company that I used to purchase. After three months of ongoing dispute with a follow up phone call every two weeks or so with the credit card company, they finally agree to issue a full refund to my credit card as they take their dispute with the merchant's bank. Hooray!

Although Gamesboutike has 96% positive rating when I purchase the Xbox, but from my experience with this company I would never buy anything from them again. The term caveat emptor apply here with this vendor.

I'll keep it short. The game is fine. The mic works well. The guitar is pretty cool with the slider. The drum kit is an absolute PIECE OF CRAP. None of the wires were soldered well, which results in them pulling out, and having to repair them. Now the wires going to the symbals and drum pedal are literally disintegrating...as in, don't touch it, it will fall part. A little tug on the bass pedal pulled the wire out from that, and I can't get that part repaired for the life of me. The game was almost perfect. A lot of the thing i didn't liked were fixed. No more mako mission. Boring repeative side mission are gone. Replaced by missions that help you squad and give you key insight in to the universe that you are in. You can now command you squad mates individually setting up cross fire. I can combined powers so have a bigger effect.

Then they perceived to fix thing I didn't think were errors. Like the load out screen update made so you can see their equipment, loyalty status, also what powers they have and no longer will be shopping for the "best weapon" there are only 3 different weapon in each slot. Then you upgrade them. Ammo is a power and some ammo can be extended to the squad.

Bionic Commando would've been good....if:

-There weren't COMPLETELY random toxic areas to limit your exploration and to punish you for no apparent reason.
-You didn't pretty much die every time you fell into water. (Seriously,in some places it's maybe a foot deep-just stand up for goodnessake!)
-The controls weren't so completely unforgiving at times when you need them to be accommodating.
-Swinging from floating mine to floating mine was actually nuanced and smooth instead of insanely aggravating because of poor attach detection and doofus swing mechanics.
-You didn't have to re-play huge chunks of the game over and over again because the save spots were in such stupid and unintuitive places.
-If the story was little more than truly ignore-worthy.
-The main character was less of a tool-shed.


Of course it really would've sucked if not for:

-Really great graphics.
-Fun grappling mechanics.
-Decent combat.
-Taking enemies out by throwing cars and debris with your mechanical arm (One of the game's ONLY saving graces)
-A couple of cool bosses and some really great larger enemies.

I wanted to like this game. I really did. There are some really great moments in it, but man it was hard to get through with all of the frustration. I've played Sega's "Universe at War" and a demo of EA's RTS. I like Halo Wars better than either of them, although I enjoyed them all. My only beef is that I wish there was a difficulty level between "easy" and "normal". There is an option for "auto" difficulty but who knows what that would mean?
