So you find yourself in the underwater city of Rapture. Sure it would be fine and all if everything wasn't trying to kill you with all kinds of powers and weapons. But the good part is, you get these weapons and powers too and can join in the fun.
This game has no multiplayer, so if you're looking for online competition pick up Bioshock 2, otherwise start with this game for the story (even though there is little link between this game and its sequel in terms of a story-line). Basically you arive in the aftermath of what can only be described as a civil war in Rapture and throughout the course of the game you start to piece together what happened and why everyone is crazy and trying to kill you. The story is as creepy as the atmosphere and it lends well to the story as I found myself several times being startled by a "splicer" creeping up behind me.
The gameplay is fantastic. Sure you get all kinds of weapons to use but the real fun is in the powers you get called "plasmids." These allow you to use telekinesis, electricity, fire and others. This allows you to play the game using whatever methods you find most effective and that makes for a much more fun playthrough. You can advance your character by defeating "big daddies" and this nets you a currency called "Adam" with which you can buy other plasmids and power-ups. This aspect of the game keeps you playing and gives you a real sense of accomplishment.
I really enjoyed this game, it was full of mystery and excitement and I would recommend it to anyone that is a fan of the FPS genre. With the bargain price of under $20, if you haven't played this game yet I'd say pick it up right now and dive in to the undersea world of Rapture.Get more detail about BioShock.
