I was so psyched to get this game that I started playing it the moment it arrived at the house. Unfortunately, the excitement died off quickly.
1. Mass Effect 2 adds nothing good that the previous game didn't have. Not a thing.
2. The large number of animated sequences, while pretty, too forever, and seem to be the primary reason why the game needed 2 CD's. If I'm switching discs in the middle of the game, I'd rather it be because there was more stuff to play, not just stuff to watch.
3. In regards to playability, I finished the game in a couple of days, and saw no value in playing it again.
4. The way that you scan planets for minerals and upgrade your ship / weapons is INCREDIBLY boring and time-consuming, and I had to wonder what the heck they were thinking by adding it.
5. The game was predictable. It went, "Find new crew-member, do new crew-member's personal quest, now they like you . . . repeat as necessary. The number of side-quests (anything outside what I just listed) was minimal compared to the last game.
6. The development of relationships in this game was equally simplistic. In Mass Effect 1, you actually seemed to do more wooing over the course of the game. Here, once you've completed their quest, it seems like they're yours. Oh, and no same-gender pairings this time (at least not within the regular course of game-play).
7. Final fight is incredibly anti-climactic. You know how in some movies, you know the monster isn't dead and is going to come back one more time? Well it doesn't, and I left the game wondering, "Is that it? Really?"
Honestly, except for the graphics (which were pretty sweet), this game was inferior to its predecessor in every respect. If you're looking for a good RPG, Dragon Age is much better in every way that counts.Get more detail about Mass Effect 2.
